Future Aspirations
View the future that Maroochy Shire's
residents desire...
A Vision Statement is a concentrated compilation of what most residents aspire for the future of their Shire. The Maroochy 2025 Vision Statement brings together the future aspirations - the 'visions' - of our community. 'Community Visioning' represented Stage 2 of the Maroochy 2025 process. It asked the questions: "Where do we want to be?" and, "What is our preferred vision?".
More than a wish list, community visions chart out how our future is achievable. They also sketch the future according to priorities defined by the community (ie Key Focus Areas).
To gather the future aspirations - 'visions' - of Maroochy's communities, some 44,000 residents were surveyed and polled. A Community Task Force (a body of 32 representative residents) was then established. This Task Force crafted the Vision Statement by carefully sorting and blending communities' responses.

In the Core Vision Statement of Maroochy Shire, the future scene is of a self-aware, empowered and 'connected' community. It is a community proud of its unique 'Bush and Beach' culture. The community sees this culture as its primary source of wellbeing - economically and spiritually.
During the visioning process, images and metaphors were also collected on the communities' underlying values - its 'deeper story'.
|
Through these images, a journey from the present to the future was constructed around six identified priority areas (KFAs). For each focus area there were five major Key Vision Ideas (KVIs). These provide greater detail on Maroochy's preferred future.
.
To make this portal into the future more tangible, a 'day in the life of' narrative was devised: We were taken into Maroochy Shire in 2025 through the fictional diary of Maroochy resident Amy Lee.
